What is WP Shelf?
WP Shelf is a small independent studio that builds focused WordPress plugins. Each plugin does one job, stores its data in your own WordPress database rather than a vendor’s cloud, and keeps working if you stop paying for it. The first plugin on the shelf is Gloty, an AI translation plugin.
The name is meant literally. A shelf holds a few things you reach for often, not everything you might one day need. We would rather ship a handful of plugins that a site owner can fully understand than one sprawling suite with a settings screen nobody reads to the bottom of.
What is Gloty?
Gloty is a WordPress plugin that translates your site automatically using AI and serves the translated pages from your own database under language-prefixed URLs such as /de/ and /fr/. It generates the multilingual SEO scaffolding — reciprocal hreflang, per-language canonicals, translated titles and meta descriptions, language-aware sitemaps — so translated pages can actually be indexed and ranked.

Why does data ownership matter for a plugin?
Plenty of WordPress plugins are thin clients for a hosted service: the plugin collects your content, the vendor stores and processes it, and your site renders whatever comes back. That works well right up until it doesn’t — the subscription lapses, the vendor is acquired, the pricing model changes, or the service has an outage during your busiest week.
Storing data locally changes the failure mode. If a WP Shelf plugin stops being maintained tomorrow, the data it produced is still sitting in your database in a form you can query, export and serve. That is a lower ceiling on how much we can break for you, and it is the constraint every design decision here is measured against.

- In your own WordPress database, as translated variants alongside your original content. Gloty never overwrites the source content in WordPress core tables, and translated pages are served from local cache rather than fetched from a remote service at render time.
- Does WP Shelf work with any WordPress theme?
- Gloty works with standard WordPress themes and requires WordPress 6.4 or later and PHP 8.1 or later. It also handles WooCommerce stores, including the block-based cart and checkout that render in JavaScript and are commonly missed by other translation approaches.
- What happens to my data if WP Shelf disappears?
- It stays in your database. Every WP Shelf plugin writes its data to your own WordPress installation in a form you can query, export and serve independently, so an abandoned plugin leaves you with the content it produced rather than an empty site pointing at a dead service.
